Forgiveness Process / Proceso del Perdón
Our Forgiveness Process is an emotional and spiritual healing process model that supports the participant values by combining the disciplines of psychology, sociology, and behavioral health within a context of religious beliefs. Participants attain a positive change in their emotional experience through the learned art of forgiveness and leave with a new perspective and willingness to continue a path of continued healing, reconciliation and self-learning.
The program starts with a one day retreat and continues over the course of 12 weeks. It is available in English, Spanish, or bilingual for interdenominational or Catholic settings and is offered to adults and youth ages 12-17. Benefits Participants benefit by letting go of their ties to past hurts and unhealthy behaviors. In many cases this is the first step in a process of change that starts by realizing that they need to change and contemplating the effect that positive change can have on their lives. After the one-day retreat and follow up sessions, participants end up with a life project and a willingness to take action and maintain the changes in behavior. When the process affirms the religious practices of the participant, there usually is a more profound and permanent effect. There are many studies showing that religion has a stabilizing effect and a positive mental health effect on participants. Process The first step into the Forgiveness Process is a one-day retreat where participants start contemplating what life could be with positive changes and reconcile the hurts and emotions that do not allow them to progress to attain wellbeing. After this one day retreat, they are prepared to follow a 12-session program that includes exercises and personal support to develop a Life Project as well as the virtues and values needed for permanent change. By the end of the process, participants are integrating action into their lives and together with their natural support systems, find ways to maintain their positive behaviors so that they become permanent.
